Modula Long Goods: vertical automation for managing long materials becomes a reality

A new storage system for materials up to 7 meters long: efficient, safe, and structured storage, handling, and picking using vertically arranged drawers. These days, at the LogiMAT trade fair in Stuttgart, Modula is presenting this new system through informational and multimedia materials that illustrate its concept, technical features, and application potential. In recent weeks, it was exhibited at the MECSPE trade fair in Bologna.

Managing long materials has always been a challenge in industrial warehouses. Modula Long Goods addresses this need with an automated vertical system that enables efficient and safe storage, handling, and picking of long items. “Long Goods” is the new automatic vertical warehouse developed by the Italian company, a leader in intralogistics, to manage long and bulky materials with a structured, automated, and high-performance approach.

These days, from March 24 to 26, Modula Long Goods is at the center of attention at the LogiMAT trade fair in Stuttgart (Hall 1, Stand 1C67), where the solution is presented through dedicated informational and multimedia materials illustrating its concept, technical features, and application potential, without a physical display of the system. Previously, at the beginning of March, the system had been physically presented at MECSPE in Bologna as part of the international exhibition.

Looking more closely, Modula Long Goods allows the storage of materials up to 7 meters in length in vertically arranged drawers, following the goods-to-person logic for automated storage and picking. Materials are delivered directly to the operator, reducing manual handling, shortening picking times, and increasing accuracy. Optimization of vertical space and reduction of floor footprint allow storage density to increase by up to 90%, with benefits in terms of order, safety, and warehouse organization. The system replaces traditional solutions such as floor storage and cantilever racking with a compact and controlled vertical structure designed for industrial productivity and better material protection.

Modula Long Goods is available in two versions designed for different application needs. The standard version features a drawer depth of 637 mm and a usable storage width of 7,060 mm; this configuration is suitable for applications requiring efficient storage of long materials with optimized depth and high vertical density. The Long Goods D version, on the other hand, offers an increased drawer depth of 840 mm, while maintaining the same usable width and height configurations. It is intended for applications requiring greater depth capacity and more flexibility in managing larger or more complex long materials.

In both versions, drawer height starts at 237 mm and can reach up to 600 mm through extensions. The drawers can be divided with internal partitions, allowing up to four parallel rows of long materials within the same drawer, providing advantages in space utilization, organization, and picking speed.

The system handles aluminum and PVC bars, profiles, extruded components, and other similar long products. Each drawer supports loads of up to 900 kg. The total net storage capacity can reach 80,000 kg, with heights of up to 21 meters, supporting high-intensity industrial environments.

Modula Long Goods can be integrated with manipulators, overhead cranes, and forklifts. Loading and unloading take place directly at the operator bay. Optional lateral extraction facilitates integration with cutting machines and production lines. Tilting drawers increase operational flexibility in automated production environments. Full integration with Modula WMS ensures digital, structured, and traceable management of long materials, with ERP connectivity, real-time inventory control, guided picking, and reduced errors.

“Long Goods” therefore introduces automation, control, and efficiency into the management of long materials. In this way, Modula’s innovative system transforms a traditionally complex activity into a scalable solution designed for industry.
