Coffee end-of-line: flexibility and integration according to Gampack Group

In the coffee sector, the increasing diversification of formats – particularly in the capsule segment – is redefining end-of-line packaging requirements. Ever more variable batches, differentiated packaging solutions, and high productivity demands require systems capable of combining flexibility, compactness, and operational reliability…

It is in this scenario that Gampack Group, an Italian company founded in 2004 and today active internationally in the design and manufacturing of machines and automatic end-of-line packaging systems, operates.

From standard modules to tailor-made solutions

One of the distinctive elements of Gampack’s approach is the combination of modularity and customization. Machines are based on standard modules but are configured and adapted according to the specific production needs of the customer. “This approach helps avoid two typical issues which are overly rigid machines, difficult to adapt to new formats and fully custom-made solutions, often costly and complex to manage. The result is a balance between standardization and engineering flexibility, particularly relevant for coffee producers”, tha company said.

Capsules: complexity managed through robotics and process control

Capsule packaging represents one of the most complex challenges in end-of-line applications. The fragility of certain product types, combined with the variety of required configurations (multiple formats, multi-layer arrangements, use of interlayers), requires extremely precise solutions.

Gampack addresses this complexity through integrated robotic systems that manage capsule orientation and automated filling, both ordered and bulk

multi-layer configurations, including placing of interlayers. A key aspect is the ability to preserve product integrity throughout the entire process, avoiding micro-damages that could affect the final perceived quality.

Modular case packers: from flat blank to finished box

The core of the coffee sector offering is represented by modular case packers, designed to manage the entire process from flat blanks to sealed cases.

The typical configuration includes robotic case-erecting module, capsule orientation system at infeed, dedicated robotic filling module and automatic case-closing module. This architecture allows the handling of both neatly arranged capsules and more complex configurations required by premium brands.

Full integration: from end-of-line to pallet

One of the most relevant aspects, especially for industrial roasters and co-packers, is the possibility to integrate multiple process stages into a single compact solution. In fact, Gampack lines can include automatic case packing, integrated handling systems, robotic palletizing and quality control of products, packaging, and pallets.

The advantage is not only related to floor space optimization, but also to simplified operational management, reduced machine-to-machine interfaces, improved production continuity, size changeover and operational flexibility.

“In a market where product variety is constantly increasing, size changeover efficiency is a critical factor. Gampack solutions focus on optimized size, changeover times, reduced manual adjustments and adaptability to different packaging layouts. This results in higher production responsiveness, essential both for large roasters and premium brands with wide product portfolios”, the company concluded.
